For U.S. passport applicants, accuracy matters. U.S. passport photo rules are specific, and even small errors in photo size, background, expression, lighting, head size, or image quality can cause delays or rejection. The U.S. Department of State requires one recent colour photo with a passport application, and it must meet the published U.S. passport photo specifications.
We photograph your image carefully, check it against the current U.S. passport photo standards, and provide professionally prepared printed photos for your application. Where needed, we can also supply a digital copy for your records or for eligible online renewal use.
Whether you are renewing a U.S. passport, replacing an expired passport, replacing a lost or stolen passport, or preparing a new application while in Australia, we can help ensure your passport photo is prepared to the correct official standard. U.S.
Embassy guidance in Australia also notes that applicants need one U.S. sized passport photo for a range of passport services.
We use controlled studio lighting, careful positioning, and precise framing to help produce an image that is both compliant and natural looking. Every photo is checked against current U.S. passport photo standards before it is supplied.
The official U.S. requirements specify a 2 x 2 inch (51 x 51 mm) photo, with the head measuring 1 inch to 1 3/8 inches (25 mm to 35 mm) from chin to top of head, on a plain white or off-white background.

Requirements may change. Final acceptance of all passport photographs remains at the discretion of the issuing authority.
The U.S. Department of State specifies that all photographs meet the following specifications:
✓ 5cm x 5cm (2inch x 2inch) in size on a white or off-white background,
without shadow of the head;
✓ A full front view of the applicant’s face, with the head size (from bottom
of chin to top of head, including hair) between 2½cm and 3cm, with 1cm
space above the head and below the chin;
✓ In normal street attire. If applicant is required to wear any headcovering, a signed statement
must be submitted indicating that the headcovering is worn daily for religious/medical reasons;
✓ Without dark glasses unless a doctor’s statement is submitted supporting the wearing of dark
glasses for medical reasons.
Snapshots, most vending machine prints, magazine or full-length photographs are not acceptable.
Photographs retouched so that the applicant’s appearance is changed, or printed by color photocopy
machines are also not acceptable.
Digitized photographs must be clear and provide proper contrast and white background. Some printers
will produce a photograph in which the dots are seen. Visible dots distort the image by making it look
grainy. Acceptable photos have a continuous tone image that looks very photo-like.
