You've come to the right place. Gold Coast Passport Photography prepares Canadian passport photos to the official specifications published by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), the department that administers Canada's Passport Program.
Whether you're renewing, replacing a lost or expired passport, applying for the first time while overseas, or photographing a child, we'll prepare your photos to the correct IRCC standard, and explain exactly what you need before we begin.
Canadian passport applications come in two formats, and which one you need depends on how you're applying:
Applying in person or by mail? You'll need 2 identical printed photos prepared to IRCC specifications, with our studio details stamped on the back of one.
Renewing online? You'll need a digital photo file in IRCC's specific JPEG format. No prints required for the application itself, but you will need a Canadian address to qualify.
Not sure yet? We recommend taking both. This is also recommended by the IRCC. This allows you to try renewing online first, or fall back to an in-person or mail-in application immediately if required.
We can supply printed photos, the digital file, or the full combination — whichever your application requires.
Canadian passport photo rules are specific. Even small errors in size, background, expression, lighting, or head position can lead to delays or rejected applications — and the rules differ from Australian passport photos in size, format, and what needs to appear on the back of the print.
We use controlled studio lighting, careful positioning, and precise framing to capture an image that's prepared to IRCC specifications while still looking like the best version of you. Every photo is reviewed on screen with you, and checked against the current Canadian passport photo standards before it's supplied.
For renewals of adult passports, a guarantor's signature on the photo isn't required — but the photographer's studio name, complete address, and the date the photos were taken must appear on the back of one printed photo. We handle that stamping for you as part of the session.
For first-time adult applications and child applications, a guarantor's signature is also required; you'll arrange that separately, and we'll prepare the back of the photo correctly so it's ready to sign.

Do I need to make an appointment?
Yes! We have limited sessions available and making an appointment ensures your session runs on time. You can book online through our calendar, or call the studio if you'd rather speak with us first.
How much do Canadian passport photos cost?
Canadian sessions start at $40 for printed, trimmed photos with our IRCC-required studio stamp on the back. The Digital + Print & Trim combo at $65 covers both online renewal and mail-in submissions. Every session includes on-screen review and requirements check.
How long does the session take?
Most Canadian passport photo sessions run 20–30 minutes, including on-screen review and approval before we print. Once approved, your prints are ready before you leave the studio, and digital files are emailed straight to your inbox. We take the time to get it right.
Do you photograph babies and children?
Yes. We regularly photograph toddlers, and children for Canadian passport, visa, and ID photos. The studio is calm, the techniques are patient and safe, and we're experienced with restless little ones.
Where is the Gold Coast studio located?
We're at Suite 11, 12–18 Bayview Street, Runaway Bay, just a few minutes from Australia Fair, Harbour Town, and Runaway Bay Shopping Centre. On-site parking is available behind the cafe.
We carefully guide posture, neutral expression, and alignment so your photo reflects how you naturally look. This is not an awkward or snapshot rush service. We take the time to refine the image until you look like the best version of you.
Behind the scenes, professional studio lighting, calibrated equipment, and accurate biometric framing ensure your photo is prepared to official specifications — without distortion, shadows, or guesswork.
The result is a photo that's clear, balanced, and professionally prepared — one you'll walk out with sorted, and be happy to see on your identification for the next ten years.

Book at our Gold Coast studio and leave with a photo prepared to Canadian passport specifications. One that looks natural, professional, and that you'll actually be glad to hand over.
Sessions are by appointment only. Check what's available and secure your time.

“We are blown away"
"Professional, efficient and talented. Just had our kids passports photos taken and we are blown away.
Even with a restless toddler GCPP made it work.
Thank you again!"

"I got a shot I loved"
I had the BEST experience with Paul getting my passport photo taken! He was so incredibly kind, knowledgeable and helpful and really made sure I got a shot I loved and that I felt confident in! He even printed a couple of sizes to make sure it’d definitely be accepted at a post office. 10/10 for service and outcome, can’t recommend this enough ☺️"
